Retro Curved Stripes

Updated: Apr 23, 2021

Hi guys, sharing with you how I created this snazzy piece today. I love how retro this statement piece is. It sold super quickly so clearly someone loved it as much as I do!

These curved stripes are super simple and can be done using masking tape !! I got this idea from Happyretrofurniture on Instagram, her stuff is amazing you should check it out. A lot of people ask me how to do this so I hope this helps!

Here's how the curves are done;

  1. Using a ruler draw the two lines you want to meet with a curve

  2. Then find an object with the desired curve which you can use to trace. It could be a plate or a tin.

  3. Using the object trace around the curve

  4. Apply masking tape over the curve roughly- this will be cut out this doesn't need to be perfect it just needs to cover the curve completely

  5. Using the plate then trace around it using a box cutter to cut away the masking tape for the curve

  6. Remove the masking tape to reveal the curve you have cut

It might sound difficult but it's a super simple way of painting the perfect curve !! And a good alternative to the string and nail method for drawing curves. This is perfect with anyone who may not have the steadiest of hands and struggles to cut in the perfect curve.

I have created the video below to help you see what I mean when it comes to painting curves. I hope this helps and if you try it out, let me know and tag me @colourfulsaz.
